GENERAL PRINCIPLES AND MATCH DIRECTORS GUIDELINES
Host Broadcaster match director are aware that they are providing coverage for the World Feed. The coverage should be unbiased and aimed at satisfying the viewing preferences of a global audience, not just the French market. The following principles apply to multilateral match feeds produced by Host Broadcasters, and match directors should follow the guidelines outlined below.
- Priority to live coverage of the match : when the ball is in play, coverage must systematically be live.
- Neutral and impartial coverage : the coverage of the match must be completely impartial, with both teams being treated equally and with events being covered in such a way as to take into account the interests of both teams.
- Coverage of referees’ decisions : replays of passages of play relating to referees’ decisions must testify to correct decisions as much as to potential incorrect ones, without insisting beyond reason on the latter within the context of the live coverage.
- Respect and fair-play : the director shall emphasise events reflecting these two values.
- Coverage of incidents on the field of play : the director shall remain extremely vigilant regarding any potentially controversial elements (for example, players disrespecting officials, violent behavior, insults).

- Coverage of incidents in the stands : incidents such as banners, pyrotechnic devices, thrown objects, racist displays, fights and other similar events taking place in the stands should not be included in the live coverage unless they have a direct impact, in one way or another, on the actual match. Images demonstrating the fans’ positive enthusiasm should be favored and any scenes going against the spirit of sportsmanship and festivity should not be promoted.
- Coverage of VIPs : coverage of VIPs is only authorised if said VIPs are known internationally and this coverage may only be shown on-air during breaks in play.
- The issuing of yellow and red cards must be covered live.
- All substitutions must be covered live, featuring both the outgoing and incoming players.
- Coverage of off-sides : in general, called off-sides must be analysed using a virtual display. The director shall pay specific attention to the use of slow-motion replays, amongst others, by respecting the following rules :
- Priority must be given to live coverage.
- No replays may be inserted while the ball is in play.
- Replays should only be inserted in the continuity of the relevant passages of play : they may not be used in the World Feed several minutes after the relevant passage of play.
- The Ligue 1 McDonald’s replay wipe will be used at the start and close of every replay.
Crisis Unit
This specific process is implemented to manage incidents within stadiums, potential match stoppage and the impact on broadcasters.
A crisis unit will be activated for one of the following reasons:
- Safety risk for spectators
- Public order event likely to disrupt the course of the game
- Safety risk for players in the game
- Risk that could jeopardize the regularity of the competition
- Unethical event
One of the main purposes of the crisis unit is to prevent matches from being suspended and abandoned by:
- Managing the risks caused by the incidents
- Taking immediate measures to protect the public, participants and facilities that may be targeted and affected
- Determining a strategy for returning to a normal situation
Moreover, the aim of this crisis unit is to ensure that information on the situation is communicated as quickly and efficiently as possible to broadcast partners. A final decision will be made within 30 minutes maximum, and the match delegate will communicate the terms of this decision to the Media Manager. International broadcasters will then be notified by email. In addition, TV Graphics are integrated in the World feed to inform TV viewers about the situation in real-time.
Video assistant referee

LFP Media will be using the Video Assistant Referee throughout Ligue 1 McDonald’s 2025/26 season. LFP Media works with the company HAWK-EYE as its service provider for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology and goal-line technology. The purpose of the VAR is to fix clear mistakes in an unquestionable way. Initial referees’ decisions will be corrected only if videos demonstrate obvious errors. The VAR can be used in 4 different cases:
- Goals: Goal awarded / Goal cancelled for fault / Goal cancelled / Goal cancelled for offside
- Penalty kicks: Penalty awarded / Penalty cancelled
- Dismissals: Red card cancelled / Red card
- Identity of the player sanctioned
